Good morning beloved. Dress yourself, in the Lord this morning. Don’t underestimate the power of thoughts and words. What you tell yourself every morning will set your mind and life on that path. Talk success, victory, happiness and blessings over your destiny and over others. Speak positivity no matter what the day or circumstances bring. Life and death are in the power of the tongue.
One of my Facebook friends shared about an incident that she had while in a dressing room. While trying on clothes, she stated that she could hear this mother cussing at her daughter in the next room. This is what she said, “To the lady that was mean to her daughter in Dillards…I thought I was on the show WHAT WOULD YOU DO???? Seriously in the dressing room listening to her curse her daughter out. I said you shocked me I thought I was on the show WHAT WOULD YOU DO. The daughter started to cry when I said ENJOY your birthday…how did I Know, I heard your rude mother while she was cursing you out mention it!”
My heart was so heavy after reading this because what that woman is doing to her daughter is sinful and will last a lifetime. But, how often have we said something that was hurtful to our children or someone else, knowingly and unknowingly. When I think about how this little girl must have felt it just makes my skin crawl. As I read this I had to ask God to forgive me for any time that I may have been guilty of acting like this mother with others. As we grow in the Lord He shows us ourselves and sometimes it’s not pretty. He will bring things to our remembrance that we may have forgotten about and still need to repent for. I thank God that He has allowed me to be transparent in my writings. I may not have cussed my sons in public like this but I’m sure there were times when I may have said something that could have hurt their feelings. My prayer is that it was not a lifelong scar.
The mind of a child is fragile. Their emotions touch their future and our words shape their destiny. The effect of our words can lead to a good outcome or to a disastrous one. Remember when we were young we had this saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.” Boy were we ever wrong! You may remember things that people said to you in the third grade that still bother you today, still intimidates you. On the other hand, you probably also remember compliments that people made that have stuck with you all these years. Words like, “You did a great job! You can do it!” These positive statements probably motivated you to continue to pursue other goals in your life. What people say can make the difference between success and failure, between good and bad consequences.
I believe that today many Christians are living defeated lives because of their words. Have you become trapped by what comes out of your mouth? Do you talk negatively about your health, your job, your finances, or your family and it just drags you down that much more? Sometimes I do. I think we all do sometimes or other and the devil delights to get us on a downward spiral. We can retrain our mouth to speak better words. You have the choice of what words you live by. Romans 10:8 says the “word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is the word of faith we are proclaiming.” We have been given authority to speak God’s words in His name.
Whether you know it or not, there is the power of life and there is the power of death within you. Everything you have said this week has either been life-giving or death-dealing, and there is nothing in- between. The tongue has the power to kill, to destroy, to hurt, to maim and to assassinate. How many of your words this last week were words of encouragement? How many of your words were words to build up? How many times in the last week did you find it necessary to criticize, to tear down and destroy? When we become angry, it is a time when Satan has a field day with our words because during this time we usually feel hurt and our thinking pattern is all discombobulated.
Anybody can sit in the critic’s corner and just tear something down. Are you the kind of person that other people are glad to see coming into the room, or are you the kind of person that causes other people to turn their face away? One reason may be that they see you as a negative, discouraged, critical person. Everybody has troubles and problems. Nobody gets a free ride from earth to heaven. How blessed you are if you use your tongue to lift up and encourage the people around you. I know this is not easy when anger is involved. But guess what it can be done. Because God has the ability to do all things!
Our speech and the type of wisdom that governs our lives displays the state of our heart. What does your tongue reveal about your heart? Because the type of wisdom and speech that governs our life displays the work of God in our hearts. Are you increasingly maturing in your speech? Or do you find your tongue a “restless evil” that you cannot control? The book of James has taught us that apart from Christ, such an appeal is impossible. Redeemed speech and wisdom only come from the work of the Redeemer. Let us cast ourselves on the mercy of our Redeemer and pray that He will continue His work of overthrowing the damaging words that occasionally flow from our mouths. What is spewing out of your mouth-Life or death????
“A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:20-21
Live life give people hope, Share your heart, wisdom and resources. Never place a period where God says there should be a comma.
As always peace and blessings, be safe. Remember God loves you and so do I. ©krw 2.22.
