Good morning friends. We should find meaning in every breath we take and make every breath meaningful.
How often do we try to find “things” to give our lives substance and meaning? We chase after the biggest cars, homes, bank accounts, the finest male or female and the possessions that give us the most fun. But we don’t realize that this is not always the best for us. We are blind-sided by the glim and glam of these things.
This too is a trick of the enemy. Satan knows that if he makes the temptation big enough, glamorous enough that this will pull us in. Don’t think that Satan doesn’t know how and what to tempt you with because he tempts us with the desires we really already have if we are being truthful and transparent. There’s an old wise tale that “all that glitters ain’t gold.”
Some of the pleasures that we seek are wrong and some are worth entertaining. But even the worthy pursuits are fruitless when we pursue them as an end in themselves. We must look beyond our activities to the reasons we do them and the purpose they fulfill. Solomon wrote that these types of attempts at finding life’s meaning as “chasing after the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 2:11)
We can feel the wind as it passes but we can’t catch it or keep it. In all our accomplishments and pursuits, even the huge ones, our good feelings are only temporary. Without God as your foundation all you are living for is meaningless. Think about what you consider worthwhile, where you place your time, energy and money. Will you one day look back and decide that you were chasing after wind?
Jesus said, “but seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:33-34)
We should try not to carry today’s worries, struggles and disappointments into tomorrow. This is such a meaningless endeavor.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21
Live life, give people hope and share your heart, wisdom and resources. Never place a period where God says there should be a comma.
