“Spiritual Muscles”

Good morning Lovelies.  Father, I thank and praise You for the everlasting life that You have given to me by Your wonderful grace and love. May I grow day by day to be more like You, full of compassion and kindness. Saturate my heart with Your love so that I may love You and others more. Thank you, for Your Holy Spirit Who is making me to be more like You Lord Jesus. I want to reflect Your grace and Your beauty in thought, word, and deed. So that You are magnified more and more in my life. Root out any bad attitude, foolish thoughts or wrong motives that may start to formulate in my mind which may hinder my growth or infect my spiritual life. Help me I pray, to take every thought captive so that I may become a fruitful branch and bear much fruit. In the Mighty Matchless Name of Jesus. Amen!!


In this day and age, everyone is talking about exercise and healthy eating and living. This is not really anything that is new. Some may think that this is something that they have perfected but in all actuality, God perfected this during creation and when He allowed His Son to die for us. Think about it. You have this person telling you to try this plan or that plan if you want this to happen or that to happen to your body while building muscle as well.

As I’ve reflected on how to keep fit this is what I have discovered, calorie counting and exercise are important but the road to health starts much deeper. Real health begins in the soul, and if you want to be fit for life you have to begin by building your spiritual muscle. To do that we must first understand that there are three levels of living and that everyone chooses at which level they will live. A life shaped by any and everything. A life shaped by what is temporary or a life that is shaped by what is permanent.

You might not be into lifting weights or eating six eggs and three cups of oatmeal for breakfast. That’s OK. You don’t need to be that extreme if you want to stay healthy. But when it comes to keeping our spiritual health the Holy Spirit makes it clear today that God’s deep truths are revealed only to the careful and constant reader of his Word, not to the casual, careless one (Richard Lauersdorf). In fact, if we are casual and careless about our Bible study, our faith can only grow weaker. Weakening our spiritual muscles.

Friends, you know as well as I do that you can’t build a healthy body by eating anything that suits you especially if it is sweets. If you want to be physically healthy there are certain foods and substances that you just have to refuse – there are certain things that you just should never absorb into your body. Just like an athlete can’t build a healthy body by eating anything and everything in sight, you can’t build spiritual muscle if your life is being shaped by everything and anything. So we try to eat the things that are healthy and wait to see what the results will be.

It’s so easy to question your belief system when you are not sure what God is doing. It’s so easy to give way to doubt when you are being called to wait. It’s so easy to forsake good habits and to take up habits of unfaith that weaken the muscles of the heart. When God asks you to wait, what happens to your spiritual muscles? While you wait, do your spiritual muscles grow bigger and stronger or do they grow droopy, weakened or shriveled up? Waiting for the Lord isn’t about God forgetting you, forsaking you, or being unfaithful to his promises. It’s actually God giving you time to consider his glory and to grow stronger in faith. Remember, waiting isn’t just about what you are hoping for at the end of the wait, but also about what you will become as you wait.

No-one can maintain good physical health unless they monitor what they take into their body or if they’re reckless about what is absorbed into their body. The same is true for us spiritually. We’ve got to monitor what we take into our mind and perhaps more importantly, what we take into our heart in order to have strong spiritual muscles.

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.  Timothy 4:7-8

Live life, give people hope and share your heart, wisdom, and resources. Never place a period where God says there should be a comma.
