“Rearview Syndrome”

October 10, 2020

Good morning Lovelies. This is a late post. But I didn’t want you to think that there wouldn’t be one for today. Forgive me for the late start. Dear Lord, the battle seems intense some days. We get tired and weak, weary, and worn. It’s hard to keep going in the face of defeat. But, help us to remember that You will never leave us, that You’re our Refuge and our Strength, an ever-present help in the time of trouble. We know that the enemy wouldn’t be fighting so hard against us if we weren’t making a difference for Your Kingdom. He wouldn’t be fighting so hard to stop us if he didn’t think that You had so much good left for us. Remind us that the battle belongs to You, and whatever we’re up against can be taken on in one failed swoop by Your Mighty Hand. Help us to trust You more, to never waste time spinning our wheels ad wrestling or fighting in our strength. Please forgive us, Lord, for the times we’ve failed to lift our hands to You, for the days we’ve forgotten to come to You first. Fill us with the Power of the Holy Spirit this day. Fill us with Your joy, fill us with Your wisdom and discernment, fill us with constant reminders that Your presence will go with us and You will give us rest. In the Mighty Matchless Name of Jesus, Amen!

I remember growing up in the church and seeing the choir march into service. Sometimes the marches they did would be so crazy until it seemed to take the choir hours to get to the choir stand. Some choirs would take two steps forward and two steps back! You can’t get anywhere like that. That was insane! Well, many times we practice the same pattern in our walk with Christ. We get close to God, then we get weak only to revert back to the shameful place we were at before we got close to God! It’s one thing to look back and allow your past to make you feel bad. But, it’s even worse to keep repeating the same mistakes of your past.

Even though you may despise your past, it’s very easy to repeat history. You see, the devil has no new tricks, but why would he need new tricks when the old ticks keep working? The enemy finds a pattern in your life and he attaches himself to it. In other words, the very things that may have gotten you bound in the past are the same things that can get you bound now. The bad decisions you made in the past will always come back to test you! And they will come the same way, during your same low point or high point, and will try to pull you into a “rearview cycle” all over again. I know people that have struggled for years and years, and they never seem to see that doing things the same way over and over will not produce different results.

For instance, if you have a problem with cussing, why are you listening to songs that do a lot of cussing? Don’t you know that it’s going to produce the same results? Those things will reach into your past, pull up patterns, and continue to pull you back into the same familiar situations that you once were bound by. The true definition of “insanity” means to do something the same way, over and over, but expect different results. Listen, allow your past to teach you not to lead you! Don’t do it like that anymore because every time you did that, you failed. Every time you fall into those old patterns, you hurt someone. Every time you go back, you get hurt. We have to learn to stop the “Rearview Syndrome!” You cannot go back to the way you use to do things. Your thinking must catch up with your calling! You are God’s chosen vessel. Your past cannot become your path!! God has a better way and if you wait on Him, you will not have to repeat the pain and hurt of your past. If what you are doing seems familiar, then just think back to when you did it before. What were the results? Then stop the insanity! If it lead you astray before, it will do it again, only with greater consequences.

You see, past mistakes cost you more as you grow and mature because the consequences get greater as time progresses. What God brought you out of and helped you escape may be fatal to you in your later stages of growth when you indulge in the rearview syndrome. Don’t get me wrong, there is always grace and mercy, yet consequences can be severe at times.

So my friend, don’t just stop looking back, but also stop repeating the things in your past that you have been freed from. Walking backward just takes you further and further away from your destination. Ever driven a car looking in the rearview mirror? If you keep looking in the rearview mirror, you WILL crash!

“Don’t repeat the sins of your ancestors who turned their backs on God, the God of their ancestors who then brought them to ruin-you can see the ruins all around you.” 2 Chronicle 30:7

As always peace and blessings, be safe. Love life, give people hope and share your heart, wisdom, and resources. Never place a period where God says there should be a comma. Take advantage of your opportunities but never allow your opportunities to take advantage of you. Remember God loves you and so do I. krw©10.10.2020
