Good morning friends. Let us reflect on the countless individuals who have lost their lives for our country. Although today is officially Memorial’s Day we should remember them daily. We tend to forget about them after today. To many, Memorial Day, the federal U.S. holiday that takes place every year on the last Monday of May, is just another excuse for a three-day weekend. It’s also known as the day that marks the official start of summer and as a day devoted to getting great deals at the mall. However, the true meaning of Memorial Day goes far beyond barbecues and sales.
We go through so many things in life that we sometimes have to lean on others to get through or to accomplish. Leaning has the sense of putting your whole weight on something, resting on and trusting in that person or thing. When we have an important decision to make, we sometimes feel that we can’t trust anyone-not even God. But, God knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we want and need than we are!
We must trust Him completely in every choice we make. We should not ignore careful thinking or demean our God-given ability to reason, but we should not trust our own ideas to the exclusion of all others. We should always be willing to listen to and be corrected by God’s Word. Bring your decisions to God in prayer, use the Bible as your guide and then follow God’s leading and guidance. He will make your paths straight.
Look at your values and priorities. What is important to you? In what areas have you not acknowledged Him? What is His advice? You may already acknowledge God in many areas of your life. But, it is in the areas that you attempt to restrict or ignore His influence that will cause you grief. Make God a vital part of everything you do. Then He will guide you because you will be working to lean solely on Him. Looking at Psalm 71:1-6, it helps me to remember why I lean on Jesus. It says, “In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel. For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth. From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you.” This is why my sense of hope and trust is so strong regardless of the presence of the wicked, the unjust and the cruel who oppress and threaten.
You know when Bill Withers wrote, “Lean on Me,” it was # 1 in July of 1972. It’s almost like a 20th-century psalm, although it doesn’t particularly speak of God. The song is still a hit and has remained popular for 40 years and is still heard on the radio, in part due to its worldwide message that at times we all need someone to lean on. There is no one better to lean on than Jesus!!! So who are you leaning on?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Live life, give people hope, share your heart, wisdom, and resources. Never place a period where God says there should be a comma.
