Jars of Clay

Good morning beloved. God has always been there. Even in the times that feel the darkest and the most confusing, God is there and has always been there and always WILL be there.

This morning as I studied God’s word I began to think about jars of clay. I reflected back to a childhood experience that I had in art class. We had a project where we were going to be working with clay. I remember being excited because I thought “how hard could this be, I know that I’m going to get an “A” on my project.” The project consisted of us designing a vase, jar or bowl. I didn’t realize that my getting an “A” was the farthest from the truth. We all had to watch the art teacher begin to show us how to start our projects.

We had a mound of clay on a small rotating table. It had a pedal for you to control the speed of how the table spun. Mind you, this in itself was not an easy task to accomplish because you had to apply the right kind of pressure on the pedal, in order to not have clay flying everywhere. Once I got that part under control it was time to start molding the clay. We had to keep our hands wet in order to have the moisture we needed to create our project. It was a messy task. I remember that it took several attempts to create the jar I decided to make. This was something that turned out to be more difficult than I expected.

It seemed that no matter how I tried to hold my hands to mold the clay, I ended up with a loop-sided or one side higher than the other project. At the end of this project I had what I would call a “jarowl” a jar slash bowl. It wasn’t a pretty sight at all. This made me realize, that this was because one side was stronger than the other which in turn made the whole thing weak. So this was why it turned out like it did. My teacher told me not to feel bad about my creation. She moistened her hands and began to gently mold my”jarowl,” into something that was beautiful.

Some of the projects ended up with cracks after drying but the art teacher repaired theses cracks for the students who had them, by adding more clay to them over the areas that needed correcting. God does the same thing too with us. He takes us and gently places His hands on us to mold us, and shape us into beautiful creations. He knows that we are cracked vessels and He needs to add more clay to the areas in our life that need correcting. He knows that we are weak vessels that need the Master Teacher’s touch. He knows that we cannot mold ourselves into beautifulness without Him. We may be like cracked jars of clay but He is able to complete us. Making us into who and what He wants us to be. Like the clay we just need to be willing for His loving hands to manipulate and mold us to be the vessels that in turn can be used. Jesus knows that this can be a messy task but He is still willing to handle the task that was brought before Him. He knew that He had to stick with it until completion. Do you feel as though you are flawed and you cannot be repaired? Come to the Potter who can turn you into a work of art. All you need is the gentle hands of the Master.

Isaiah 64:9,”Yet, O Lord You are our Father, we are the clay. You are the Potter we are the work of your hands.”

2 Corinthians 4:7, “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

Live life, give people hope. Share your heart, wisdom and resources.

As always peace and blessings, be safe. Remember that God loves you and so do I. ©krw 3.18.16 (originally written 2/27/14)
