Good morning lovelies. Father God, I come to You on this morning confessing that sometimes I choose to focus on the negatives instead of focusing on what You’ve called me to focus on. Help me to take the words of Philippians 4:8, to heart. In every moment of everyday, help me focus on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable, so that my attitude may reflect and honor You. As I practice shifting my perspective, keep my heart from growing cold and bitter. Teach me to remember that I am not a slave to my negative emotions. Because of Your spirit, I can tell those emotions to be removed and turn my eyes on things of You, instead. In the Mighty Matchless Name of Jesus. Amen! (Philippians 4:8, Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.)
It seems strange that a man in prison would be telling a church to rejoice. But Paul’s attitude teaches us an important lesson. In other words, he is telling us that our attitudes do not have to reflect our outward circumstances. Paul was full of joy because he knew that no matter what happened to him Jesus was with him. It is easy to get discouraged about unpleasant circumstances. Or, to take important events too seriously.
Having a bad attitude is a waste of energy. All it does is make us look bad, make us treat others wrongly, and hinders our ability to help others. Or appreciate that what we are going through isn’t as bad as we think. So with that being said, “Is it worth it?” Our emotions should never dictate our actions. I know it’s hard to hide bad feelings or negative things that have affected us, but when we begin to allow our emotions to be responsible for our actions, it becomes hard to really be what God wants us to be if every time the devil says jump, we say, “how high!”
If Jesus is Lord, then He should get the glory for our walk. In order for Him to get the glory for our walk, we must lead by His Spirit. But if we allow the spirit of the enemy to control us then we are not glorifying Him in our walk. This makes us unstable and we look wishy-washy to the world around us. Because you best believe that are watching us. It is very important that sinners around us see us stable and secure in God. Not to say that we don’t still fall short of the glory of God because we certainly do, but it is up us to show that in the mist of all of what we have done that He loves us and He cares. Instability shows them disorder and it’s not attractive to the person who has not yet turned their life over to the Lord. They are already dealing with these issues and they need to see an example of God’s Spirit in us.
Instability gives the enemy access to us too easily. He can just pull our string and we are out of sync with who we are, how we treat others, and how we respond to God. So again, “is it really worth it?” We have to make up in our minds that we are not going to allow attitudes and feelings to dictate our actions. We must say to ourselves that no matter what happens, we will be like a tree, planted! Unmovable! Unshakeable! With God, that Olé’ Buzzard can’t control us.
Sure, bad situations will arise and cause us to have bad attitudes, but if we manage our feelings properly instead of acting on them, we can get through it without hurting others or ourselves. Ask God to heal your emotions and manage your feelings. The power of the Holy Spirit is here to lead you and guide you. So, stop following your emotions into the land of “Bad attitudes” and receive guidance from the Spirit of God that guides you. If you haven’t been joyful lately you may not be looking at life from the right perspective-with the right attitude.
Live life, give people hope and share your heart, wisdom, and resources. Never place a period where God says there should be a comma.
